Peanutchan’s Godformers

Based on Godformers Scribble Script and :Do As I Say:

The jungle was an uninviting place for a human. Filled with dangerous creatures from venomous serpents to ferocious insects, the dank rainforest was not a place for the unwary.  Rising out of the greenery was a sturdy bridge. Crossing over the jungle river, the human structure was the only marker of the existence of any civilization in this area of the forest. Trudging across it was a short line of humans.

In the middle of this pitiful parade was a girl. She was of sixteen years, but her eyes had recently taken on the look of an old woman facing the end of her life. The attack on her small village had not left her unscathed mentally and emotionally, even though physically she was unharmed. She knew that she was destined for either the conquerors’ altar or their homes as a slave.

Unbeknownst to the girl and her captors they were being stalked by a predator. Most of the predators of the jungle, the warriors could take, but this one, they were totally unprepared for. He watched them, scented them, savored in the knowledge that he would soon feast on their blood. He waited for just the right moment to strike.

The first inkling that the girl felt of danger was the stirring of the hair on the nape of her neck. Then she heard the first strangled scream. She froze staring straight ahead. She knew not to run, but her legs twitched with wanting. She smelled the copper stink of blood and the stench of rent intestine. The girl heard an inhuman shriek, and then an answering human one. She tried not to think as she watched the rest of the party be ripped apart by an enormous jaguar.

The beast was immense, and curiously colored. Its face was white with black markings, and the rest of it was a dappled green. The creature’s muscles bulged and flowed as it made its way to her. It strode toward her like a king, its long tail twitching. Lazily, the beast rose up and knocked her to the ground. Its face loomed close to hers. “It’s no fun if you don’t run.” it said to her in its deep, gravelly voice.

She just stared and said nothing. The jaguar growled deep in his throat and sat on his haunches. “I know you are afraid, I can smell it.”

She still said nothing. The tail twitched faster. “I should kill you.”

The girl sat up. She saw a spear sticking out of the jaguar’s side. “Why don’t you?”

The tail twitched again. This time the jaguar said nothing. The girl shrugged and then leaned forward. She had no tie to the living world, why should she care if her next action would probably get her killed? The girl reached forward and yanked the spear out.

The jaguar screamed in rage and made a swipe at her. She took the blow in her left shoulder and slammed into the ground. She was fortunate - or unfortunate if she decided to think of it that way - that he hit her with his claws retracted. He turned to look at his side. “Why did you do that?”

“I don’t know.” she replied quietly.

The jaguar paced away from her, and then in a very catlike gesture paced back. “Yes you do.” he answered just as quietly. “You want to die, don’t you?”

She didn’t answer, but her face was enough for him. The jaguar flicked his tail disdainfully in front of her face and then turned away. “I guess I won’t kill you then. You don’t make if fun at all. You don’t run and you wish for your life to end. No fun at all.”

Finally, the girl felt a flash of anger well up. She grabbed his tail. The jaguar turned back, but the expression on his face could only be described as mocking. “Finally some spirit, eh Princess?”  They stared into each other’s eyes. “My name is Lockdown.”

The girl blinked.  “I’m not a princess. I’m just Sari.”

The jaguar’s grin turned into a full on smile. It was truly frightening. “Amusing.” he said as he began to walk away.

Sari blinked again and then rose to her feet. Her hands were still bound, but her feet worked fine. “Wait!”

Lockdown turned back to her. “What?”

“Wait up for me!” she called without thinking.

Lockdown stared at the human. “I guess I could keep you Princess Sari.” he said. “I would love a pet.”

Sari didn’t say anything, but her jaw clenched. So she would be a possession after all. She cast a look back to the blood spattered bridge. At least this demon she could respect.

Sari’s feet hurt terribly. Lockdown had attacked the convoy in the early morning and now it was mid-afternoon. The unlikely pair of jaguar and girl had been walking along ever since they left the bridge without a break. Lockdown had bitten through the ropes binding her wrists awhile ago, but she knew that his mercy wouldn’t extend much farther.

Sari had found that as she trudged along beside her dubious protector she began to regain some of her normal spunk. The shock of the attack on her village had finally begun to wear off, and her fear of what she had gotten herself into grew. Who was this Lockdown really? He wasn’t just a jaguar, of that she was sure. Jaguars could not speak, much less converse as if they were a superior being. She snorted. Maybe jaguars were. At least they didn’t kill just for the hell of it. Even when they preyed on humans, jaguars had a reason whether it be protection or food.

Lockdown looked back when he heard her snort. “We will be there soon Princess.”

His insistence on calling her “Princess” was beginning to grate. She felt a flash of panic. Was he taking her to his home to be his dinner? Or could he possibly want her for something else? She paled. Was she to be his bride or something?

Lockdown sensed her agitation. He laughed. “Do not fear Princess. I only wish a companion. Sometimes I wish to speak with someone other than those like me.”

“Those like you?” she murmured.

He looked back at her just as they walked through another patch of brush. In the distance she could see enormous temples rising into the sky. “Gods.” he said with an evil smile.

Sari woke up screaming. The nightmare of the attack faded quickly as she felt a warm, furry weight on her shoulder. Lockdown’s head rested there. “What’s the matter Princess?”

For once, the moniker sounded gentle instead of mocking. “Nothing.” she said. “Just a bad dream.”

He purred, soothing her. He rather liked this human. She’d lasted longer than most of the pets he’d kept. He liked her spirit and attitude. His Princess Sari boasted humble origins, but she could be just as imperious as her sobriquet. “Of your village’s demise I presume?”

“Yes. I watched them kill my family.” she whispered. In the week that she’d been living in Lockdown’s temple, she had not had one dream about her home. Instead, she had dreamt of a jaguar chasing her through the jungle. “My mother has been dead for years, but my father and grandfather tried to fend them off. Both were killed in front of me.”

Lockdown butted her head. “You are safe from all outsiders here. Should you ever die, it will be by my will.”

Sari snorted. “That’s comforting. Do you even have a place and time chosen?” she said sweetly.

Lockdown butted her head even harder. “Enough lip. Go back to sleep.”

Sari laid down on her pallet and was back to sleep before she knew what happened to her.

______________________________________________________________

Another week passed before Sari saw any of the other gods. She could have wished for a better first encounter.

One morning she was busy weaving a decorative mat when she heard Lockdown growl loudly from outside. He often hunted during the day, though what she didn’t know, nor wanted to know. Sometimes he would bring back a kill for her to cook. Fortunately, he’d only brought home small mammals. It was highly unusual for him to be back at this hour. She quietly went to the doorway of the temple.

In the main room she spied Lockdown crouched down in front of what she could only assume was another god. The man was dressed in bones and his face was coldly handsome. “You will do this.” he snarled at Lockdown.

“You do not command me Megatron! I do not bow to the god of war.” Lockdown replied.

Megatron grasped Lockdown’s neck scruff. “You will or I will destroy you!”

Lockdown’s fangs flashed as he snapped at Megatron’s arm. “You do not scare me War!”

Sari must have made a sound of some sort because she drew the attention of the other man in the room. He was a terrifying vision because his face was not even remotely a human face. Oh, she called Megatron a man, but his face was only just barely human. Its planes were hard and seemingly metallic instead of rounded and flesh. This man’s face was nothing more than a curved obsidian plate with a single, pulsating, red orb. “It seems,” he said in a smooth, smug voice, “That we have company.”

Megatron looked up and Lockdown looked over. “Who is this?” Megatron asked. His evil smile held false kindness.

Lockdown locked eyes with her. “Go back into the other room Princess.”

She stood up straight. “I am Princess Sari.”

Megatron chuckled. “Princess Sari? And who are you to live in the temple of the jaguar god Lockdown?”

She raised her chin a little higher. “I am his companion.”

Megatron let go of Lockdown’s neck. “His companion? I see.”  He approached her. His cold fingers tipped her face up towards his. “I bet you would do what I ask if I threatened this little bird, wouldn’t you Lockdown?”

Sari was the one who laughed this time. “As he’s often told me, he can get more where I came from.”

Megatron cocked a brow at this bravado. He glanced at Lockdown. The jaguar’s expressive face was like stone. “Very well then.” he murmured. He took hold of Sari’s wrist and with an expert flick, broke it.

Sari screamed at the sudden pain and snatched back her arm. She hunched over it, trying to instinctively protect it from further harm. Megatron turned his grin to Lockdown. “Have fun with your broken toy.”

He and the other god left.

Once they were gone, Lockdown approached her. “You alright?”

She looked up at him, her incredulous expression clear through her tears of pain. “Do I look alright?!”

Lockdown gently butted her head. “That was brave, but stupid. Megatron is god of war Princess. As you now know, he knows various ways to harm another.”

She growled in her throat as she straightened. “He’s a big bully who needs to be brought down a couple of pegs.”

Lockdown laughed. “You’re right. Now, come. We will go ask the healer to take a look at that wrist.”

:iconpeanutchan: gave permission in the scribble script for anyone to write it up if they like, and I felt a plot bunny born in my head. I tried to stay pretty close to the script, but in the end I just let it go where it would. The last part was inspired by her piece :Do As I Say:.

Hope I didn't completely maul your idea Peanutchan. ^^;
